Himalayan Crystal Salt Lamps are believed to create negatively charged ions in the air. Modern day pollution and electrical equipment creates positive ions in the air which are potentially harmful to us and cause air quality in areas affected to deteriorate. Using a Himalayan Crystal Salt Lamp adds negatively charged ions to the air by attracting moisture from the air, dissolving the salt and the heat evaporates the moistute back into the air, taking the minerals from the salt with it. This helps to neutralise positive ions which are alleged to be detrimental to our well-being and cause physical and mental harm. Other sources of negatively charged ions include waterfalls and the sea, with up to 10,000 negative ions per cubic metre opposed to just 100 negative ions per cubic metre in the city at rush hour. 

The size of your lamp is important because the quantity of negative ions emitted from the lamps is directly related to their weight, so to get the full benefits you should choose a lamp of the correct size for your room. Assuming that your room has a normal ceiling height, the scale set out here will be correct. 
Room size: 
6sq.m. = 2 - 3 kg 
10 sq.m. = 3 - 6 kg 
15 sq.m. = 6 - 10kg 
20 sq.m. = 10 - 13kg etc.
